Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. For a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family these characteristics were a natural. Maureen was welcomed into the family-oriented home on the 17th of August 20th in Ranelagh. Marguerita Lu. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers" famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a great athlete and participated in rough, competitive games as a child. Her ability to perform was the perfect match for her love of athletics. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis prizes for her own nation's theatre and drama proved this. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she pursued her dreams of operatic as well as classical theater and singing.
